The iPhone app
The app is in testing (TestFlight) and not in the App Store yet.
The app works two ways:
- On the phone alone - no server. Your hours, projects, weeks and months stay on the phone. Choose Use on this phone when you open it. Settings > Backup > Save a backup saves everything as one file (choose Save to Files > iCloud Drive to keep it safe); Restore from a backup brings it back, also on a new iPhone (from the welcome screen). The iPhone's own iCloud Backup includes Timetap too.
- Connected to your Timetap - the phone clocks you in and out, switches projects and reads tags, the same as a reader. Away from the office it keeps what you do and sends it when it reaches the server again; that part of the day is marked remote. When you get to work - you tap your tag on a reader, or the phone joins the work network - the remote part ends there and the rest of the day counts as at the office, without clocking out.
Connecting a phone
- On the Timetap web page: Account > Your iPhone > Connect a phone. It shows an address and a code.
- In the app: Connect to Timetap, type the address and the code within ten minutes, and Connect.
A lost phone: remove it under Account > Your iPhone.
Widgets, Siri and automations
- Widgets on the Home Screen and Lock Screen show today's hours and clock you in and out.
- Siri and Shortcuts: "Clock in with Timetap", "Start a project in Timetap", "Today's hours in Timetap".
- Clock in automatically: with the Shortcuts app's automations - when you arrive at work or join the office WiFi - the iPhone tells Timetap to clock in, and out again when you leave. Timetap never sees where you are. The app has a step-by-step guide under Settings > Clock in automatically.
